The boat pictured above is a recent addition to the Sheriff's Department Dive / Rescue Division. The Boat itself was donated by Mr. Paul Hoppes of Seminole Marine. The Yamaha Saltwater Series 115 outboard was provided by Yamaha at less that half the selling price. The dive team is a member of the Tri-States Emergency Response Team which includes Florida, Alabama and Georgia. When called, they respond to underwater emergencies in the Tri-States area as well as underwater searches to recover property or for crime scene investigations. The team consists of three full time deputies and one auxiliary deputy. Specialized equipment used in addition to scuba gear includes an underwater metal detector, underwater scooters, and dry suits for cold weather operations. Their primary mission is searching for and recovering evidence of crimes, victims of drowning due to swimming, boating, airplane and car accidents. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is proud of its diving unit and its accomplishments.
